Will Hurd, a former CIA covert operative, is entering the campaign for the White House, joining a growing pool of competitors who will be challenging Donald Trump for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. Hurd will be competing against Trump for the nomination of the Republican Party.
On Thursday, Hurd officially kicked off his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Hurd is a former CIA officer who hails from Texas and previously served in Congress for three terms until deciding not to seek re-election in 2020.
In an interview, he made his formal announcement as a candidate for office, and he also submitted the necessary papers to the Federal Election Commission in order to run.
“This is a decision that my wife and I decided to do because we live in complicated times and we need common sense,” Hurd told CBS News. “We need common sense.” China, inflation, education, and artificial intelligence were chosen as the four most important topics by Hurd.
